Merkur HD 34C seems to be a good shaving set. There was some people who complained about some knicks and bleeding, but after the first 5 shaves you really get the knack for perfecting your own way of shaving. Always remember slow strokes and wet your face always before use of the stuff or you will feel the difference the next day.
'Merkur HD 34C' is very manageable razor to use, but it is like comparing an Manual transmission to an Automatic both can be very likeable, but one will take alot more work.

Merkur Progress is an heavier razor with big barrel so will take getting use to, but over time you will become accustom. Again make sure you be gentle I am not sure how much experience you have shaving so I will give you insight as beginner.
